Superintendent Perry presented a draft contract for a director-level hire to cover human resources and student information services and asked trustees for feedback before bringing a final contract to the August 17 meeting. Perry described the role as necessary because the district decided not to fill an assistant-superintendent slot and needs a candidate who can be trained before the start of the school year. "So the contract is I mean, I guess we can just discuss it... The base was presented in the contract of 90,000, but I may I wanna negotiate because just in case he counters... maybe $5,000 above that" Perry said.
Trustees pressed for counsel review. Trustee Holder asked whether the contract had been submitted to the district attorney (Joe Urban); Perry said she would forward the draft and report back via her newsletter. Trustee Chambliss and others discussed whether it is standard practice to have legal counsel review contracts; Perry said the district previously used the attorney's contract language and would circulate the draft for review. Perry said she expects to make an offer contingent on counsel review and planned a start date around August 10 to allow training with Oakland Schools. The board did not vote on the contract; Perry will seek counsel feedback and return the item for approval on August 17.
