The Solano County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 4 adopted a resolution recognizing August 2026 as Child Support Awareness Month. The proclamation notes that child support agencies provide services at the local level and that Solano County joins 47 California local agencies in the recognition.
"We are not a service that you have to qualify for...your income doesn't matter," Leanne Peck, director of the Department of Child Support Services, told the board, urging residents who need help to enroll. Peck described the agency's annual backpack drive and said local partners and staff distributed 220 backpacks filled with school supplies this year in partnership with the Solano County Office of Education and other donors.
Akan Walker, educational liaison for foster and homeless youth services at the Solano County Office of Education, said the backpacks will be handed out at a foster youth picnic serving roughly 185 students and thanked county partners for the collaboration.
