IDA wins $16.9M PowerUp award to boost electricity to Wayland Industrial Park

Steuben County IDA staff told the board the agency was awarded $16,900,000 from New York State's PowerUp program to expand electrical capacity to Wayland Industrial Park.
"PowerUp is a program that was announced as part of last year's budget...The IDA is going to be receiving that money," Jamie said, adding the plan includes building a 6.6‑mile dedicated transmission line to Wayland and installing a capacitor bank at the Wayland substation. He said the upgrades, done in partnership with NYSEG and NYSAC, would increase site capacity from about 2 megawatts to as much as 21 megawatts over time.
Jamie described the PowerUp award as the outcome of prior site work and a clean‑tech analysis that ranked Wayland highly for readiness but limited by electrical capacity. He told the board that the transmission work and substation work carry long lead times (equipment and construction) and estimated multi‑year planning and delivery windows.
IDA staff said the PowerUp funding is intended both to serve Bonitrans' announced needs and to enable future industrial growth in the park.
