Westfir council adopts $1.43 million budget for 2026–2027

Mayor Richard Watson and the Westfir City Council adopted the city's fiscal year 2026'2027 budget, Resolution 582, setting total appropriations at $1,426,433. Councilor Jara Mouracade moved to approve the resolution and Councilor Deretta Huey seconded; the motion carried 4'0'00 (AYES: Watson, Huey, Cheatham, Mouracade).
City Recorder Nicole Tritten told the council most proposed changes were adjustments to interfund transfers rather than new expenditures and that the only increase to expenditures was a $1,000 addition to the General Fund, which she said remained within the 10% statutory limit for post-hearing adjustments. Tritten also reported that Lane County agreed to exchange $68,000 of County General Fund for Westfir Secure Rural School funds; that exchange eliminated the need for an interfund loan in the General Fund. The council reviewed proposed changes across the General Fund, Sewer Fund, Highway Fund, Rural Tourism and Marketing Program Fund, and City Hall Building Fund and registered no objection before adopting the budget.
The adoption followed a public hearing held earlier in the meeting; no written comments were received prior to the hearing and the council heard one video comment from a resident about a neighborhood infrastructure issue. The council adjourned at 6:14 p.m.
