Dr. Robert Eiler, economics professor at Sonoma State University, presented Solano County’s annual Index of Economic and Community Progress on June 24, highlighting mixed signals across labor, housing and farm sectors. “Labor force and employment have basically recovered in Solano County,” Eiler told supervisors, but he warned that growth has flattened recently and that trade and tariff policies could change the macro outlook.
Eiler pointed to logistics and warehousing as the standout growth sectors while construction and some farming employment have yet to rebound fully. On housing he said the county’s five‑year growth in median home value was roughly 27% and noted that the median home price has now “broke the $600,000 barrier.” The presentation included social equity metrics showing varied progress for communities of color and recommended that workforce and economic development efforts be coordinated to make gains more equitable.
County staff said the full index and underlying tables are available online and promised follow‑up with city‑level breakdowns by community for board members who asked where specific inequalities and employment concentrations appear.
