District administration reported that the proposed Mist Elementary expansion—adding an additional teacher—remains on hold, though enrollment will rise in the two existing classrooms. Superintendent Jim Helmen summarized the status during his superintendent report: "Mist Expansion of adding an additional teacher at this time is on hold however, enrollment will increase with the two existing classrooms."
During audience comment and staff reports, Mist teacher Sena Wilmoth spoke in support of a gradual expansion plan, and Principal Michelle Eagleson described Standard Response Protocol rehearsals and outstanding reunification planning. The board heard that law enforcement and fire department partners are aware of evacuation plans, but a designated reunification location still needs to be finalized.
Board and community speakers urged careful planning that pairs any facility changes with clear safety and logistics updates; no formal decision to expand was taken at the May 14 meeting.
