Commission approves special assessments for four local street and drainage projects

Bond counsel Garth Herman told commissioners the county mailed notice and published the proposed final costs for four separate special-assessment projects and asked the commission to open a public hearing. "There will be an opportunity for the property owners to prepay in full or in part their special assessments," Herman said, noting the prepayment deadline of Feb. 17. After opening the hearing and hearing no public commenters, the commission unanimously adopted the resolution to levy the final costs.
Herman said any unpaid assessments will be financed by issuance of the county's general obligation bonds and assessed over 15 years. Commissioners approved the motion by roll call; no dissenting votes were recorded. The resolution implements the petitions and prior resolutions that initiated the four projects and gives property owners the option to prepay before the financing step.
