The Iroquois County Health Committee approved an Animal Boarding Agreement intended to expand local boarding options for animals in county custody and to assist foster families who need temporary care. The agreement, reviewed and approved by the State's Attorney, was approved by committee voice vote and will be implemented after fee research to ensure non-competitive pricing with local private boarders.
Animal Control Administrator Angela Frary provided an operational update: April deposits totaled $3,775, Animal Control received 46 calls during the month and the shelter reported “1 dog and 1 cat at the building and 3 dogs in foster care.” The committee discussed setting boarding fees so they remain non-competitive with local boarders; Frary will research local rates and return to the committee with proposed fees. The committee also reviewed intergovernmental agreements and reported signed agreements from several villages and follow-up correspondence to remaining jurisdictions.
Committee members noted the University of Illinois Shelter Medicine Agreement was under review by the State’s Attorney and that routine building maintenance (epoxy floors) was completed with volunteer assistance; county cost was materials only.
