Iroquois County adopts temporary moratorium on data centers and warehouses

The Iroquois County Board on April 14 adopted Ordinance No. 2026-8, a temporary moratorium on data center facilities and warehouse development in all zoning districts. Planning & Zoning recommended the moratorium to allow the county time to evaluate impacts on the electrical grid, water usage and other environmental concerns and to update relevant ordinances.
Chair Kathleen Perkinson and Planning & Zoning counsel Andrew Keyt advised the board that state legislation and recent local developments required ordinance revisions, and the moratorium provides a pause to ensure local rules align with statutory requirements and technical needs. The motion to adopt the moratorium passed by roll call vote with Williams absent.
The moratorium was recorded as Ordinance No. 2026-8 in the county clerk’s office.
