The Iroquois County Board opened its Jan. 13, 2026 recessed session with a moment of silence for late Vice Chairman Scott Watts and then handled leadership continuity and vacancy formalities.
County Clerk Breein Suver called the roll and led the board in recognizing Watts’ service; the board later approved Resolution R2026-4 declaring the vacancy in District IV created by his passing and Resolution R2026-3 declaring the vacancy created by Doug Geiger’s resignation. "A moment of silence was observed," the clerk recorded during opening remarks.
Because both the chairman and vice chairman were absent for the meeting, the board nominated and elected Jamie Bakken as Chairman pro tem to preside. Later in the meeting the board closed nominations and voted by roll call to name Bakken Vice Chairman of the County Board. The board set the next County Board meeting for Feb. 10, 2026 at 9:00 A.M. in Watseka and recorded instructions for party notifications and the timeline to fill the declared vacancies.
The actions were procedural and formal: the board recorded votes for each resolution and the leadership nomination, and the County Clerk will file the resolutions and begin the statutory notification process for filling the two District IV seats.
