Administrators report curriculum trials, staffing gaps, testing and facility delays

Kimber Larson reported the elementary school will start an after-school art club in January and that RULER is being implemented in every classroom, with staff seeing improved student emotional vocabulary. Larry King said the middle school recently completed MAP math testing and will hold make-up tests; if 75% of students meet MAP growth goals the school will hold an all-school pizza party. Erik Borne reported 97 "shout outs" to date, veteran interview projects, and upcoming finals with early release days and a film showing on Friday.
Special education presenter Matt Swanson said the district is seeking short- and long-term paraprofessional substitutes and has openings for a special education teacher and a social worker. Curriculum director Jolene Miller said the science curriculum committee met and the district will trial new ELA and science materials next semester; the district also received additional Title I and Title II funds. Superintendent Chad Willis updated the board that the ball field work was delayed by weather, front-lobby construction drawings are behind schedule and the county did not secure an SRO grant this year and will reapply next year.
