Council hears update on new $80M water treatment plant; capacity planned for 6M gallons per day

Consultants for the city presented a progress update on the new Chickasha water treatment plant and answered council questions about schedule, costs and construction technique. Scott Vaughn of Chisholm Trail Consulting said the plant will be designed to treat 6,000,000 gallons per day with the ability to expand to 8,000,000 gpd, up from the current capability of roughly 3–4.2 million gpd. He said the total project cost is "a little over $80,000,000," with about $70 million for construction and roughly $10 million for engineering.
Vaughn described geotechnical work on the site, including rigid inclusions (grout-injected soil stabilization) underneath most buildings to allow spread footings instead of piles or drilled shafts, and said the contractor has completed most excavations with rigid inclusions expected to finish soon. "You're gonna get a brand new water treatment plant that will be able to treat 6,000,000 gallons per day," Vaughn said. Staff said they remain confident they can meet the project's March 2028 completion target but acknowledged current progress is slightly behind schedule and that contingencies exist.
