Walker Place wins county farm lease after competitive bidding, awarded $385/acre for three-year term

The Iroquois County Board on March 10 approved the County Farm lease after a competitive bid process held by the Management Services Committee. Bidders increased offers dozens of times during the live opening; Walker Place was awarded the three-year lease at $385 per acre and the contract includes payment for fertilizer applied in fall 2025.
Committee chair Jamie Bakken opened bids and managed the in-person raises. The committee recorded the full bidding sequence and moved to accept Walker Place’s final bid; the full board later approved the County Farm Lease, with Chairman Paul Ducat recorded as abstaining on a related motion and one board member absent for the final vote. County staff clarified that the fertilizer payment schedule includes four fertilizer payments over the term and that bidders were aware of the fertilizer-payment term during bidding.
The lease and the winning bid amount have been placed on file with the County Clerk. County staff will provide the signed lease to the Management Services committee for their records and follow normal contract enforcement procedures if the tenant fails to meet contract terms.
