City Manager Hansen told the council on June 1 that staff recommends approval of an ordinance to annex approximately 6.76 acres of vacant land adjacent to Lincoln Park and Bunker Links Golf Course (property identification number 05-34-101-002). Hansen said the city approved purchase of the property at its June 2, 2025 meeting and that the parcel is currently farmed and zoned conservation/agriculture in Knox County.
Hansen said the ordinance would annex the land and automatically zone it AG (agriculture) under city code, with no anticipated budget impact and no immediate development plans. Councilmember Cheeseman voiced explicit support and highlighted the golf course’s regional value, noting that it hosts about "31,000 rounds of golf" and has been named among the region’s top courses. The council did not vote on the ordinance at first reading; Hansen confirmed the item will return for a future vote.
