City staff recommended and the council approved a $323,000 contract with Henley Group LLC to design and install a nature-themed splash pad at Cook Park. "Staff is recommending approval of a $323,000 proposal from Henley Group LLC for the design and installation of a splash pad at Cook Park," the presenter said, noting the installation will include more than 15 water elements, perimeter fencing and a nature theme.
Funding for the project includes a $250,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, a $31,992.87 donation from the community foundation and remaining funds from the community improvement infrastructure fund. Staff said construction is expected to begin in April with completion targeted for June. The council approved the item by voice vote (7 yes).
Council members thanked staff and volunteers involved in the project. One council member joked that he expected to be the first to use the splash pad if the vote passed.
