Council clears new downtown restaurant "Eviania" for liquor sales

The Galesburg City Council on March 16 approved an ordinance to amend section 113.043(a) of the municipal code to increase the allowable number of Class A-1 liquor licenses and issued the license for a new restaurant at 41 South Seminary.
City staff said the amendment was requested to accommodate the proposed restaurant by Gina and Chris, which will blend American steakhouse and Mediterranean influences. "A class A-1 liquor license would permit the sale of all types of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premise with the option for off premise sales as allowed under the license classification," City Manager Hanson explained. Council members moved the item to second reading and then voted in favor on final action. The motion to advance and the final adoption each carried 6–0 (261004).
Chris Dela Johnes addressed the council to pronounce the restaurant's name and thanked the council. "So the pronunciation, is Eviania... for the English easy American, Evania," he said, describing the name as an homage to his grandmother and his chef-owner, Gina. Council members praised the restaurateurs and said they looked forward to the business opening early next month.
