Galesburg golf course records more than 31,000 rounds; commission invites council to visit

David Selkirk, chairman of the City Golf Commission and a 5th Ward resident, told the council on March 2 that the public course had "over 31,000 rounds again this year." He urged residents and council members to visit the golf shop, buy season passes (which "did not raise them — not 1 iota" this year) and noted recent capital improvements including a new bridge and culvert and replacement carts.
City Manager Hansen thanked the volunteers and staff who helped produce the turnout, saying the figure "is not an insignificant amount" and singled out staff members who drove fundraising and operations. The manager noted the rounds were the result of bake sales, trivia nights and other fundraising and said the city appreciates community leadership that helped secure that level of play.
The remarks came during the public-comment portion of the March 2 meeting. Selkirk invited council members to tour the course and review the golf-commission records; the city manager offered further thanks in his report later in the meeting.
