Staff: DTA firm coordinating FEMA HMGP/BRIC support; funding likely years away

Shay, a city staff member, told the council the DTA firm the mayor and she met with is coordinating with JUB and local consultants to complete a mitigation plan that would be needed to apply for FEMA funding such as the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) and Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program. "They're coordinating with JUB on the current plan that's being put together and analyzing that and then creating a plan to move forward to get funding once that plan is completed," Shay said.
Shay emphasized the timeline and uncertainty: "These federal programs are just really lengthy programs. They're not gonna be quick funding. They're gonna be probably a couple years at least," she said. She asked the council to treat those grants as long-term possibilities rather than immediate sources of construction money. The city will continue to track the project and maintain coordination with JUB and the consultant team. Staff said they will keep the council informed as the plan and funding opportunities evolve.
