The Jerseyville City Council on Sept. 17 approved submitting an Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Enhancement Program grant application to fund sidewalk, crossing and other pedestrian safety improvements in the vicinity of Illinois Highway 109 and Essex Street. Commissioner John Miles moved the measure and Commissioner Anthony Steckel seconded; the council recorded unanimous approval.
The motion included that a public hearing had been held at 5:45 p.m., adoption of a resolution of support, a commitment of the local share of matching funds, and authorization for the Mayor, City Clerk, and the Director of Public Works to sign any associated paperwork. The minutes state, “Roll call vote showed all voted aye, no nays, motion carried.”
City officials did not specify the total project cost or the local match amount in the minutes. The action authorizes staff to pursue the IDOT grant and to sign documents necessary for application and subsequent award; further details on scope, schedule, and funding will be determined if the grant is awarded.
