Library representative K. Bradley asked the council to approve deaccessioning 404 books identified as in poor condition or not checked out for at least 15 years; the books' estimated current value is $479.05, about 10% of their original purchase price. K. Bradley said the deaccessioned books and previously approved materials were donated to the Georgia Department of Driver Services for its book drive during the week of May 11. The Town, with assistance from Council Member Bishop Watts, reported donating 1,185 books to the book drive.
Council Member Sara Nelson moved to approve the deaccession at the estimated value; Council Member Bishop Watts seconded and the vote was unanimous. The donated books will be distributed through the state book-drive program rather than retained in town inventory.
