Station 8’s history recalled; dedication to Jesse Carl Gray highlighted

Speakers at the regrand opening traced the lineage of Fire Station 8 back to an earlier Wesley Street facility opened in 1925 and recounted the 1970 dedication of the Coliseum Boulevard station to Jesse Carl Gray.
Chief Robinson said the station was dedicated to Jesse Carl Gray after Gray gave his life in the line of duty on New Year’s Eve 1969. "By rededicating it, to Jesse Gray, we make sure we honor that every firefighter who walks through these doors would remember that our profession is built on courage," he said.
Robinson noted the plaque from the original 1970 dedication has been preserved, cleaned and brought inside the renovated station for visitors to see.
