Chief Robinson reopens Greensboro Fire Station 8 after major renovation

Fire Chief Robinson formally welcomed residents, elected officials and contractors to the regrand opening of Fire Station Number 8, recalling the station’s long service to Greensboro and the decision to renovate rather than replace the building.
"This fire station has seen thousands of emergency calls," Robinson said, reflecting on decades of service and the station’s dedication to Jesse Carl Gray, who died serving the city on New Year’s Eve 1969. Robinson said the renovated facility preserves the station’s history while adding about 800 square feet of functional space and modern systems.
Robinson thanked neighbors for patience through months of construction and acknowledged the city council, city manager’s office and construction partners. He described upgrades designed to improve response and living conditions for firefighters, including faster roll-up apparatus doors, new HVAC, SCBA filling stations, PPE cleaning facilities, a fitness area and dedicated locker rooms for women.
The chief invited council members to participate in a ceremonial hose uncoupling to mark the reopening and encouraged the public and media to tour the renovated station.
The ceremony also included brief remarks from Mayor Abusier, Councilmember Crystal Black and Assistant City Manager Andrea Harrell, as well as remarks from the project’s construction team.
