Residents urge action on Seminary/Grove crossing; staff recommends bus-stop relocation

Several residents addressed the council during public comment to urge changes at the Seminary and Grove intersection, citing high speeds and repeated vehicle impacts to property and a fire hydrant.

One resident said vehicles often travel 40–50 mph and that visitors exiting the nearby bridge fail to slow; another resident, Greg Vickers, said marked crosswalks and a pedestrian crossing sign would help protect children and others. "The crosswalk and the sign that says Pedestrian Crossing, I don't think there's a whole lot to ask that might save lives," Vickers said. Council and staff discussed the request during the city manager's report; staff cautioned against placing an unregulated crosswalk at the bottom of a hill on a major arterial and recommended evaluating relocation of the bus stop to avoid dropping riders into the high-risk crossing.

Staff said alternatives under review include moving the bus stop and adding guardrail or constructing additional land for the pedestrian path that runs near the lake; council members asked staff to continue work and to consider enforcement and monitoring. No formal action was taken that night beyond the staff direction to pursue alternatives and report back.
