The council approved two procurement measures April 20: a $117,770 contract to Mechanical Services of Galesburg Inc. for replacement of corroded galvanized water piping at the Public Safety Building, and a $31,001.63 purchase agreement with Davies Imperial Coatings Inc. for white and yellow traffic paint for the 2026 season.
City staff (Hansen) said the piping replacement addresses recurring pinhole leaks and routine maintenance problems; the contract includes a $10,000 contingency and construction is anticipated to begin in June and finish by August. Staff said paint specifications were updated to ensure compatibility with city equipment and a roughly five-minute drying time to reduce transfer and complaints. Funding for piping is available in the utility tax capital project fund (Fund 59); paint is funded by the gas tax and airport funds. Council approved both items 7-0.
Staff noted the piping project is the next phase following a 2024 replacement on the fire department side and described outreach to known vendors in advertising the bids.
