The Buford City Commission on May 12 approved Special Use Permit #SUP-25-05 for properties at 2633–2657 Gravel Springs Road to allow a convenience store with automobile and truck fuel pumps, including three truck fueling bays. The motion passed unanimously (Ayes 3 Nays 0) with several conditions attached to protect traffic flow and design standards.
Guy Abernathy, representing the applicant Naveed Masood, told the commission that a previously approved special use permit from December 27, 2023 had expired and that the new approval would include fuel pumps for both cars and trucks and three truck bays. Abernathy noted coordination with GDOT and Gwinnett County on a traffic plan; the commission made approval contingent on county- and state-level improvements, including that a Gwinnett County contract for installation of dual left-turn lanes on Camp Branch Road be let prior to issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy. The approval also requires that site development substantially match the submitted site plan and that building elevations, materials, color and height be approved by the Planning Director. Overnight vehicle storage, showers and car washes are explicitly prohibited under the permit conditions.
The conditions reflect the commission's effort to balance commercial development with traffic and neighborhood concerns. The Planning Department will review and approve required elevations and materials before permits proceed.
