Gabrielle Schaller, speaking for the applicant, said the operation "is not your typical auto body repair shop" and described work that contracts with dealerships to upfit and install beds on new chassis trucks, with all work performed inside the building and storage behind existing fenced, paved and screened areas. Neighbors pushed back: Linda Murray, a resident on Tuggle Greer Road, told commissioners she was concerned about "noise, air pollution from paint and increased traffic" if the use were approved. An emailed objection from Bernice Allen was also entered into the record.
Commissioners gave weight to nearby residents' concerns and voted to deny the special use permit. The denial means the applicant cannot proceed with the proposed use at that address under the city's zoning approvals; any future application would require a new filing or an appeal under local procedures.
