Council rejects idling restrictions for historic business district on second reading

Staff noted the prior first-reading vote passed 4–1.
Multiple residents spoke during public comment. Antonio Mendoz said, “I think it doesn’t go far enough,” and argued the rule should apply to commercial vehicles; Jake Niece said “we want less emissions in the air” and added that he “wished it went further.” Val Szwarc said, “I am very concerned about emissions from idling vehicles.” Mayor Pro Tem Lakin moved to approve on second reading, with Councilor Kroger seconding, but on a roll call the motion failed: Councilors Grambley, Greenwood, Montague and Scoville voted no, resulting in the ordinance’s defeat on second reading.
