The Jerseyville City Council on Oct. 15 approved a service agreement and a $10,000 financial contribution to the United Child Advocacy Network (UCAN).
States Attorney Ben Goetten, who also serves as president of UCAN, told the council that the UCAN program "interviews children who have been physically and/or sexually abused" and explained the group operates on grant funding that is currently delayed. He said he has been "reaching out to the surrounding counties requesting a contribution." Commissioner Anthony Steckel moved to approve the agreement and contribution; Commissioner John Miles seconded the motion and a roll-call vote recorded all aye.
The minutes indicate the contribution is intended to sustain UCAN operations while grant reimbursements are late; the council did not set conditions or reporting requirements in the public minutes.
