Jerseyville council approves zoning change to allow Bayer expansion

City Attorney William Strang told the council that "the Bayer Corporation is requesting a permit to add on to their existing facility." The ordinance amends Title 11, chapter 11 (zoning regulations) to enumerate the use; a building permit will still be required for the special use. Commissioner Anthony Steckel made the motion, seconded by Commissioner John Miles; a roll-call vote showed all present voted aye and the motion carried.
The amendment changes the list of permitted special uses in specified manufacturing districts and extends the city's special-use review to the extra-jurisdictional 1.5-mile area surrounding Jerseyville. The council did not specify additional conditions or mitigation measures in the meeting minutes. The ordinance was adopted as presented; any project-level permits or site approvals will be considered under the city building-permit process.
