Library gets park use, rental-fee waiver and a $1,000 tourism grant for fall events

The Jerseyville City Council approved multiple Library requests for fall programming. Commissioner John Miles moved to allow the Library to use City Center Park for a Halloween Festival on Oct. 26; Commissioner Anthony Steckel seconded the motion and the council voted unanimously to approve. Librarian Judy Pruitt, present at the meeting, clarified that the "actual event times are from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m." and the council also voted to waive the park rental fee for the event and to approve a $1,000 tourism grant to support it.
Separately, the council approved a special event application for a Neighborhood Block Party on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 105 N. Liberty St., and approved a companion road closure for Lafayette Street between Pearl and Exchange Streets. Judy Pruitt said the block party will include Storytime with celebrity readers, hot dogs served by the sheriff's department, and a mini concert featuring Flip the Frog.
