Lakeside developer says new well work to start Sept. 15; MDE comments expected to clear path for blended aquifer use

James Cook updated the council on Lakeside's water improvement projects, saying Somerset Well should be on location and work on Well 4R is scheduled to start on September 15, 2025. He said Lakeside received an initial round of comments from the Maryland Department of the Environment on the water tower and wells and planned to resubmit the plans on September 9.
Cook told the council that MDE determined the Matawan Aquifer and the Piney Point Aquifer can be blended to help reduce fluoride levels coming from the Matawan Aquifer. He said Lakeside expects approval of the wells in December and, following approval, will begin bidding and construction.
