Hodges said he has "volunteered over 40,000" hours and that Swing Pals has worked with more than 10,000 Durham Public School students over six years in six schools. He described after-school programming at Hillandale Golf Course and said the city has committed nearly $1,000,000 to build out the course. Hodges asked commissioners to visit Neil Middle School during a three-week rotation in late January and early February to observe the program and consider supporting a privately funded 3,000-square-foot facility at Hillandale.
Manager Hager and the board heard the request during the public comment period; no formal county funding decision was made during this work session.
