County committee backs $2.998 million contract to repair Collierville‑Arlington Road bridge

A Shelby County committee on Oct. 1 voted to forward a resolution awarding a $2,998,090 contract to Bell and Associates Construction LLC for rehabilitation of the Collierville‑Arlington Road overflow bridge.
Jim Crook, project engineer for the Shelby County Engineering Department, told the committee the bridge is a “7 span structure approximately 217 feet in length and was constructed in 1959,” and that the project will keep traffic moving: “As a rehab project, it will remain open to traffic during construction,” he said. Crook described temporary alternating traffic signals at each end to allow contractor access and said construction will take approximately 12 months.
The contract amount of $2,798,090 is accompanied by a $200,000 extra‑work allowance for a total of $2,998,090. The clerk read that FY2026 funding will include a state aid grant of $2,938,128.20 and roads-and-bridges state gas tax funds of $59,961.80. TDOT has reviewed the bid and concurs with an award to Bell; Crook said TDOT is cost‑sharing the project at 98% state / 2% local.
Committee members raised only routine questions and welcomed the plan to keep the structure open during work. The committee’s vote produced two ayes and one abstention; the item will be recommended favorably to the full commission for final approval.
