Galesburg council approves demolition contracts, rebids and awards 647 Maple cleanup

Staff said the city claimed the bid bond and rebid the work; a new contract was awarded to D and T Demolition LLC of Galesburg for $94,006.80. City staff explained that rehabilitation of the building was previously estimated at $1.5–$1.8 million, making demolition the most economical option. "To do all the work that was required, was estimated at 1.5 to 1,600,000," staff said, framing the decision to demolish rather than rehab.
