Trustees approve first reading of policy updates but pull two items for separate review

Superintendent Jamie Nino presented multiple policy and regulation revisions at first reading. Trustee Jessie Hutchens moved to approve the first reading while pulling BP/AR 5145.2 (Freedom of Speech/Expression) and BP 6173.4 (Education for American Indian Students) for separate consideration. The motion was seconded by Jack Thornburg and passed unanimously on the remaining items.
Public participants Jodi Valenzuela and Lisa Benally asked the Board to review BP 6173.4 specifically. The Board did not adopt those pulled policies at the meeting and left them for further review before a second reading or adoption.
