The Chawanakee Unified School District Board of Trustees voted 4–1 on May 12 to adopt Resolution No. 10-2025/2026 authorizing the district to proceed with the preschool licensing process. Director of Student Services Kelli Bryant said the resolution is a required step for licensing; Trustee Jessie Hutchens asked whether the district has established a fee schedule and how parents would be billed.
District staff responded that pay rates and fee schedules have been established and would be brought back with more information, and Kristi DeBernardi stated, "parents will be billed monthly." Trustee Jack Thornburg moved to approve the resolution; Vice President Elisabeth Parish seconded. The motion passed with Hutchens recorded as the sole dissenting vote. Board members said additional details—handbook language and a full fee schedule—will return at a future meeting before program launch.
