Durham proclaims Bulls Life Sciences Academy Day as partners, alumni tout job pathways

Andy Miracle, Durham County director of economic development, said the program has produced “we now have over 200 graduates, 77 of which are employed in the life sciences industry and a field spanning 22 companies.” Casey Steinbecker of Made in Durham told commissioners the program targets 18‑to‑25‑year‑olds and credited county seed funding and later ARPA dollars with allowing the program to scale.
An alumni video and student testimony highlighted hands‑on lab training and ongoing employer outreach. Nikita Mahan, a Bulls alumna who spoke in person, said the academy gave her “a beginner level knowledge and exposure to the pharmaceutical industry” and that it helped her land work at Eli Lilly while she continues her studies.
Commissioners praised the partnership between Made in Durham, Durham Tech and industry and urged continued recruitment and investment to expand opportunity for Durham residents.
