Board elects officers for 2026 and transfers leadership gavel

The Santa Barbara County Board of Education unanimously approved the organization committee’s recommended slate of officers for 2026 during its Dec. 12 meeting. The committee recommended a president and vice president as its nominees; the board moved and seconded the recommendation and voted in favor.
Board members celebrated the transition. The chair acknowledged the committee’s work and handed over leadership: “So I get to hear it… power is all yours,” a trustee said as the chair transferred the gavel. The motion to accept the slate passed unanimously.
The election followed committee reports setting the 2026 committee rosters, including the budget committee to be chaired by Guy Walker and other committee assignments the board discussed earlier in the meeting. The board indicated it will begin work under the new officer team in January 2026 and continue committee planning at upcoming meetings.
The action was procedural and required no additional fiscal authorization. The board’s next organizational steps — committee meeting schedules and retreat planning — were discussed later in the agenda.
