Board members said they want easier-to-read charts that separate vacancies from misassignments and show remediation timelines. "For something again, yet again, another serious thing that we can be called on the carpet for ourselves," one trustee said, urging staff to provide more detail next month so the board can judge materiality and risk. Staff noted the state’s usual 30‑day correction expectation and warned that the California Department of Education can apply sanctions or recoup ADA funding if issues are not corrected in a timely manner.
SCOE staff recommended that the board receive a revised snapshot with categorized entries (vacancy vs. misassignment), notes on the current status of credential completion, and estimated correction timelines. Staff also said they will share resources to assist candidates—such as exam tutoring—learned about at a recent conference.
