The chief told the council the department currently searches roughly a dozen databases and that detectives can spend about four hours a day accessing systems; he said the platform can retrieve candidate matches in seconds.
"Within 3 seconds, it identified 3 people that we've had contact with who are over 5 10, white male, contacted blue cars in the past with a number 6 in the plate," the chief said during a test description of a simulated shoplifting call. He described the platform as providing crime analytics that would reduce the need for a dedicated crime-analytics position and as an efficiency tool for officers and dispatch.
Council praised the public-safety focus and moved to approve the consent item containing the software agreement; the roll call vote was recorded in the affirmative for all present. Council members noted the city's priority on public safety and thanked the chief for the walkthrough.
