Elizabeth Payano, who identified herself on the podcast as the owner of Styles Urbano, traced the barbershop’s founding to about a year ago and linked it to a longer history of entrepreneurship. She described an earlier business, "F and S," that exported equipment to Central America and the Dominican Republic and said she has been an entrepreneur for about 20 years.
Payano told hosts the shop was founded to create a welcoming, family-like environment where Spanish-speaking and English-speaking customers feel comfortable. She said the staff provides professional services and often gives back to the community through giveaways. "I established this business as well from the ground," she said, describing the personal and professional investment behind the shop.
Payano also spoke about personal motivation: she said she opened and decorated the shop in part to honor her son Eli, and she framed continuing the business as part of preserving his legacy.
