Committee asks for more study of turn-lane and roundabout options at Route 66/87

The Columbia Traffic & Transportation Committee examined a CRCOG operations analysis of the Route 66 and Route 87 intersection, which summarized the current layout and two improvement alternatives: adding turn lanes or building a roundabout.
Committee chair Nick Ferris presented the memorandum and asked members to evaluate the benefits and tradeoffs of each alternative. Ferris said the memorandum summarized the results of CRCOG's operations analysis, and the committee tasked Sherie Gage and Jaycie Anderson to research both options and return with recommendations on safety, traffic operations, and estimated impacts.
Members did not select a preferred design at the July 15 meeting; they agreed further technical review and comparisons of right-of-way, cost, and construction impacts are needed before any recommendation to the Board of Selectmen.
