Members of the technical team and town staff said the springs near the town are particularly vulnerable should a strong debris‑laden flood push through the S‑curve that currently channels water toward the springs. "If we get a huge push of water, I believe we'll lose all 3 of them," Hayden said, describing how a bend in the creek concentrates force on the springs.
Participants discussed options to protect springs including straightening a short reach of channel, stacking boulders and pouring concrete to hold banks, or installing shutoff valves on spring collection boxes so damaged springs could be isolated. Town staff noted that a full concrete cap likely would require hundreds of yards of material, so the favored immediate option is anchored boulders with concrete infill and targeted riprap.
