The sustainability manager reported that Needham received a $1,000,000 Climate Leaders grant to help fund solar, air-source heat pumps and a Level 3 EV charger at the Jack Cogswell building. Staff held a kickoff meeting with the state and said project delivery will proceed alongside ongoing construction at Jack Cogswell.
The manager also said a state grant funded a feasibility study for solar plus battery storage at the Rosemary site; an initial draft has arrived and staff is awaiting revised numbers that separate solar and battery costs. A new funding window for battery construction will open in September and staff said they might apply if the feasibility numbers support it.
Separately, the Newman EV charger construction is underway; staff said they await Eversource to install a utility pole and that the charger will serve an electric bus in future operations. The sustainability manager also flagged a state-funded hazard mitigation plan update expected to start after a grant agreement is executed in October and anticipated that the committee would be invited to participate in outreach for that resiliency work.
