Staff reported the parks department submitted a preliminary budget and will present it to the mayor later this month. The proposal includes core service funding for events, youth programming and parks operations plus a request to add one full‑time maintenance employee to address workload pressures.
Staff said the department has taken on mowing Jesse James Park and other tasks previously contracted out and that the additional position is needed because current crews are stretched thin. The parks team said the preliminary budget contains few "fluff" items and is intended to align with Board of Aldermen priorities for events and programming.
Staff also said they will meet with the mayor in the week before Thanksgiving to present the request and will follow the city's usual budget review process thereafter.
