Kearney eyes Juneteenth World Cup event at Jesse James Park if city bid succeeds

"If we do get the bid, which, hopefully, we do, our date will be Juneteenth, June 19," the staff member said. Staff said the event would likely be an all‑day gathering with food vendors, music and other programming, and that final decisions (including whether to host fireworks or a concert) hinge on the match times FIFA announces in early December.
A committee with the chamber and city staff — including the economic development representative Carolyn Yatsop — is forming to plan logistics and funding; staff emphasized many budget questions remain and that committee work will inform whether programming such as fireworks or post‑match concerts is feasible.
Staff said they will bring proposals to the board as programming and funding options are refined. No formal board action was taken during the discussion.
