The council approved Resolution 2026-R-01 supporting planning and fundraising efforts to develop a linear park on a strip of land made available by recent street-grid development of the former Marathon property in South Clarksville.
Staff said the Clarksville Redevelopment Commission owns the former Marathon parcel and that the Historic Preservation Commission presented a preliminary design that would include art and installations explaining the history of the William and Clark expedition. At the December 16 work session the preservation commission presented the concept and requested council support via resolution to begin planning and fundraising; council members moved and seconded the resolution and voted unanimously to approve.
The resolution directs staff and supporting commissions to proceed with preliminary planning and outreach; specific funding sources and a timeline for design work were not provided in the presentation.
