Historic Preservation Commission seeks council endorsement for Clark Brothers plaza project

The Historic Preservation Commission presented a proposal to create a plaza honoring the Clark brothers on a half‑block of the new downtown bounded by Coulter, Expedition, York and Pryor Streets. Lynn Lewis, HPC president, asked the council for a resolution endorsing the project so the commission can form fundraising and history committees and begin active outreach to fund the installation.
Lewis said the project team has met with regional leaders and the redevelopment commission and that supporters see strong economic development potential. "We do intend to have this project finished in 7 years because 7 years from now is Clarksville's 250th... and we think that this would be a wonderful birthday present for our town," Lewis said. She requested a council resolution of support (not a financial appropriation) to give the project momentum for fundraising.
Council and staff were receptive and the HPC said it will return with more formal requests; Lewis emphasized the need for the council's imprimatur to proceed with soliciting funders and partners.
