Facade grants awarded and banner inventory aims for fairer downtown distribution

Staff reported the facade grant committee awarded two projects in June: a $10,000 grant for the corner of Walnut and Main Street and a grant to a property owner planning substantial work to activate the back of the old Pilot (Pack & Ship) building, with that owner proposing more than $100,000 in investment. The program received eight applications and requests exceeding the $30,000 available, and staff said they would reach out to other applicants in the fall and plan a new round opening in November.
Separately, staff said they completed an inventory of banner, flag and ornament bracket locations and will import the data into the city's GIS to better distribute banners and flags so no single area appears overrepresented. Staff also noted 10 extra banners were installed on 6th Street this season thanks to a donation and that the American Legion will continue to assist with flag placement.
