Staff presented Ordinance 2025‑G22 to amend the employee handbook and add additional paid holidays for town employees after benchmarking adjoining communities. The proposal lists additional observances (President's Day; Columbus Day/Indigenous People's Day; Veterans Day among possibilities) and staff said Clarksville historically observed fewer holidays than nearby jurisdictions.
One council member said she preferred offering additional paid time off (PTO) rather than adding fixed holidays. Councilman Stotts and others praised department staff and the proposed pay/benefit changes; the council agreed to bring the ordinance back for a second reading at the first meeting in January so members can review the details.
Clerk/administrative staff flagged the need to record the vote correctly in the minutes for a previous FOP contract item; staff confirmed they will amend the record prior to finalization.
